But Hahahaha!! It's going to be one of those olden days dramas so Shingo will be in those outfits and 1/2 'shaven' looks... Won't be able to see his hair!!! Shingo (26yrs) will play the 26 year old 近藤勇 (Isamu Kondo or some pple Isami?? .
Anyways History time, about 近藤勇 (1834-1868).
Kondo Isami, was leader of the SHINSENGUMI group.They were one group that remained true to the old ways and risked their lives to preserve the traditional shogunate system to upheld the code of honor of the samurai.
SHIN-SEN-GUMI (1863-1869) was organized by many of lower class Samurai for the quard of Kyoto against the Riot in the end of Edo Period. Because of their radical activity & their strength in fighting, they were called "Mibu no Ookami"(Wolves in Mibu Area). Since the Tokugawa Shogunate was defeated in 1869, SHIN-SEN-GUMI lasted for only 6 years. However, they were the strongest & the last Samurai Organization in Japanese History. He was also (later) a local police chief!! (???)
His sword was "Kotetsu".
Someone correct me if I'm wrong...His life story tho... ends a bit err... gross...
His body is buried at Tennei-Ji Temple the slopes of Mt. Atago. There're two competing views about this grave: (1) after being executed at Sanjo-gawara in Kyoto, his head was brought here and buried by his colleague, Hijikata Toshizo; (2) only his hair was brought back and buried.

It's called『 腕におぼえあり 』by NHK ( Ude ni Oboe Ari ) .... I don't know.... arms... remember... err... "In your arms I remember"?? "Remember in your arms"?? Hahaha!!
Shingo was in 腕におぼえあり 1 & 腕におぼえあり 2. Part 1 was aired between April - June 1992 and Sep - Nov 1992.
Then Nakai did the Part 3 in Aug 1993...

Oh boyz, I am so thrilled by this piece of news....
frankly speaking, till Hito ni Yasashiku, I didn't think shingo was doing lots of good drama....I mean as compared to Tsuyoshi, takuya & even Nakai...
even though I love Love Story, but still dearie shingo was not the "main" ...
yeah......guess I have to go subscribe to NHK for 2004....just to watch him.....I like period drama....i guess its interesting....coz I am always interested in Japan's history.....just that I am forever too lazy to read up more....

also from now till 2004, I will keep praying that somehow, SMAP will have some free time.....to do the drama TOGETHER.......and if that is TOTALLY impossible........then guest appearance will be just great! Haahaha... Suddenly NHK will have a boost of suscribers for a year... after that, no more!! I'm sure their Dec sales were quite high... After in Jan, everyone canceled.... Poor thing...

I have magazine articles of Shingo in that drama!! He looks ... err... funny.... I'll see if I can put up some pics....
And yes, of course I do hope that SMAP can all be in the show together.... Even if it's just a while. I love it when they do that. Like How Shingo did a 5 min part in Star no Koi. etc.. It feels good that they support each other....

Can downlaod a clip... Started laughing when they were fighting coz I'm thinking of Shingo during filming... He'll be so full of nonsense, jumping and actioning!! Must be really fun working with him... You'd be laughing and laughing...
Crap part about it is that SMAP's photo's are not allowed to be used... even on official drama websites.... Sucks!! So next year, we won't see Shingo in it too.... Means no more video clips too?? Oh man...

Yup Amamiya-san, Nakai-kun and Kimura-kun do this quite often, they would talk about something and makes you wonder what the world were they babbling about, and only to learn later on, that they were foreshadowing... I've learned since long ago to hang on to their every words, haha~~
But it seems like the latest speculations suggest that maybe the other members of SMAP may not appear at all. Who knows what is true and what is not at this point?! It's too early, as far as I am concern. So we should just hang in there, be patient, and wait for the official news.
I have been thinking about what Shingo would look like in the drama... Shin-chan's photos came in handy, 3Q! Wonder if he would need to lose weight for the drama?
Come to think of it, this type of NHK drama would take up the whole year ne! Especially consider how busy Shingo is already... poor baby! Hopefully there will be a regular 11-episodes serial drama for Shingo sometime this year ne, some thing not set in the past, so we can look at his cuteness before he plunges into 新選組.

I'm so happy!!!! The actress that Shingo acted with in Love Story, Yuuka has been chosen to play the role of Miyuki Tayuu - Kondo Isamu's lover in next year's NHK ???????????(Taiga drama "shinsengumi!")!!!
I liked her a lot acting opposite Shingo. I thought they were really cute together. But not too sure how they'll look playing an edo period couple!! We'll jaut have to wait and see...

Well......for your information.....Shinsengumi's rating reached 29% in Kansai area and 26.3% in Kanto area!!^o^ I feel chooo uresshiii!! It's a very good rating! And at one moment the highest is 32.7%!!! While Kimura's PRIDE got 28.2%, 28% and 32.5%!! A very high one, too! So Shingo is doing really a great job!!!^.^ Maybe to sum it up.....among SMAP members dramas.....Shingo's Shinsengumi got the 2nd highest rating next to Kimura's ^-^ But, we dont know abt Nakai's drama yet, ne......
As a non-samurai drama fan.....I'm IMPRESSED with Shinsengumi!!! Really......seriously, beyond what I've expected this whole time!! I thought its gonna be a boring, boring show. But, turns out, this is the lightest samurai drama I've ever seen! Very enjoyable! The opening scene looks very cool yet kowai.....but then, the plot turns back to 10 years earlier where it has lots of funny scenes.....and the way it is done is not heavy-handed just like any other samurai dramas....and it has the modern air despite it sets in the Edo period. This is really a show for evryone!! That's great news! I hope Shinsengumi and Shingo can keep this pace up all throughout the year. It's going to be a long long series! But the ending...... If I could watch it, I'd probably watch every single episode except the very last one.

Sou desu......it hurts me when I read about the end of Shinsengumi's history When I started to admire Shinsengumi figures.....I have to accept the fact that they have become famous and become Japanese hero really fast......but went thru a downhill really fast, too I think it'd feel kanashii to watch several last eps.....as some Shinsengumi figures life-ending is pretty tragic...T-T Cant believe the drama will end so tragically.....while the beginning is so light, comical and fun like this? Hopefully, the writer decided to ends the drama before the downhill of Shinsengumi, ne....x)
Btw......where has the regular people of this forum has gone?!?O_O Shin-chan? P-chan? Amamiya? Remii? Paige? Minna-san????

Konnichiwa...I haven`t had the chance to watch Shinseigumi yet(cause my host mother doesn`t really like to watch dramas)...feeling kind of bimyo...you guys can`t watch it live,cause you are not in japan(sorry,I am not trying to be sarcastic)...although I am in Japan,I still can`t watch it live...I think Shinseigumi`s rating will be getting higher...cause my culture teacher asked the class to watch it(to learn about the history)...Btw,my friends were talking about Shingo mama the other day...and I told them that the guy in Shinseigumi is Shingo mama(the teacher showed us a picture of Shingo in Edo period`s clothes)...not too sure whether they believe me or not,cause they were a little shocked...

Thank you Yanie for all that info!!! Hehehe, saved me a lot of typing!!! Sumimasen!! I was spending a lot of time reading up on the background and history too... But when I thought of the typing.... *gulp* I hope that minna has a better understanding of Shinsengumi now with all these info.... Yanie has kindly shared with us her Shinsengumi website.... I've bought a few books on the drama and hopefully, I'll get some time to scan in some pictures. If only I can actually read the damn books!!!
There's also some other official new posters of Shinsengumi that surfaced very recently so I hope I can get that up to... But it's Chinese New Year now so I hope I can find some time.... It's not the one with Shingo shoving his fist into his mouth... hehehe...

ARGHHH!!!Shiawase desu ne!!!Maybe I should go back to Singapore right now and subscribe to NHK,so that I can watch it...kekeke...after coming here,I am missing out on a lot of Smap`s stuff...everyday,I only get to use computer in sch for one hr,so I can`t search much or watch smapxsmap video clips...anyway,I am very happy to hear people talking about Smap in class now and then...kekeke...u know,my sch has this singing class and when my teacher announced it in language class,she asked us which japanese singer(s) do we know...kekeke...the first name being said is Smap...cho ureshii...

*SPOILER* In episode 5, Isami Kondou(Shingo) will held a wedding reception at Shieikan dojo. He is getting married to Tsune, the girl his father choose for him. Later, he will leave Tsune and his baby daughter in Edo, to head for Kyoto with other Shieikan disciples to join the samurai groups. In Kyoto...he will meet Miyuki Dayuu(Yuka), a geisha....whom he realized later as his true love....
Omoshiroi!! And I thought Isami Kondou is a yasashii and honest man?? x) Yet, having an affair with a geisha...haha! And, its pretty unusual that it is made his affair is the leading female role...rather than his wife, ne^^ Really didnt expect that Miyuki Dayuu is actually Isami's lover lover x) Cannot wait till Yuka show up!! Really want to know what kind of love story will occur here!!^-^
*HEAVY SPOILER* Miyuki Dayuu will die later =( (its gonna be a sad love story...) Then, Okou(also played by Yuka), her twin sister, will take over the second act....she will rescue Isami from unfortunate situations.
Wahh....I wish, there will also be a love story between Isami & Okou!!^-^ hee...

From all actress Shingo has acted together with, I think he has best chemistry with Takako Uehara(Yomigaeru Kinro/The Wolf), Arisa Mizuki(Ichiban Taisetsu na Hito), and Yuka(Love Story). But, I like him best with Yuka...they look cute together ^-^ I wonder which actress minna-san think, that has best chemistry with Shingo?

Yanie already gave the ratings earlier but here's an official clip of it from TV Guide 24-30 Jan.
Kimura's "Pride" started on the 12 Jan so it's in the following week's rating and it was indeed very close... I'm equally happy for Kimura... How can I not be... So excited about that too... But that's in the other thread which I'll get to in a while.
Since NHK's ????? series is such a big deal in Japan & Shingo taking on the lead role, I was really worried but I guess I have nothing to worry about... Way to go Shingo!!!! I'm so proud of him! Let's hope that this project will be a great success for our baby SMAP who doesn't seem that baby anymore in the role.... First episode saw a really serious Shingo which I couldn't get use to... It was a little strange to be watching Shingo and being reaaly serious. But so far, the drama does have really funny bit here and there. Second & third episode we see the young Kondo Isami who's a little more like the Shingo we know.
I'm so glad that NHK is showing it on their world channel so we all can get to watch it in real time. Thank you NHK!!! Ureshiiiii!!!!
