Sorry this is a late reply... First of all, I would like to thank you all for your support. I am very touched by some of the comments you guys have made.
I am aware that some of the posts P-chan & I have made here are not very pleasent to read sometimes. I do feel that it is not fair to those of you who are not involved with this issue to read such posts and feel lousy.... I do apologise. But there's no other way we can get our message across. I just hope that you guys can understand why we're unhappy with the situation. It's really not that we like to complain and bitch about it. I hate posting such things!
I think that some of you may have felt 'targeted' but like I said, this situation only came about recently cos of a particular bunch of 'members'. It is one thing to join us and pop-by once in a while to get your updates and happenings on SMAP. But it is another thing to join us for the purpose of getting pictures and clips. I'm not sure if you guys are getting what I'm trying to say... It is tough on our part to get the message across to the "offenders" yet not making some of you feel bad. Of course it will be ideal if each and every member can regularly post and contribute in whatever ways. But hey, I am not that idealistic.
When Freebird started, we only chatted and discussed about SMAP. Later, as time went by, the reason why we developed a culture of putting up information, scans and clips is because there are some of us who cannot get access to such things. And this was a perfect way for those who have to help... So obviously I do not expect EVERYONE to be providing stuff.
But then came these bunch of people who'd join us not to share... but to take... It just bugged the crap out of me cos I feel like Freebird was being exploited in some way. Here we are trying to create a happy, friendly place for all of us SMAP fans to gather together, to share our 'SMAP' lives with each other. Even if you have nothing to (for a lack of better word) 'contribute' in terms of information, scans or clips, I really appreciate your discussions, thoughts & feelings... This is after all a forum. If our purpose was to provide SMAP stuff, we would have got a website instead! Worst thing is, they come, they take, they leave - back to their own respective forums to share with their own forum what they saw or read on Freebird!!!
And of course I don't expect all of you to be frantically posting everyday. We all have our commitments. Some of our members only drop by (as in post) once in a while. That's cool... What fueled my frustration was some of the comments by some of our members. C'on... we ALL have families, jobs, school... We ALL have life problems and we ALL get tired... Is it to say that the regular active members have no life, no work, no problems and we don't get tired? It takes only one thing: effort. And SMAP is the reason behind my effort. Thru something that someone has posted, I am happy if just one person out there is loving SMAP a little more or got to know SMAP a little more... I am more than glad to share a little clip that has made me deliriously happy that can in turn, make someone else happy as well. Like I said a gazillion times... I do it for the love of SMAP. I think same goes to many of you that regularly share your SMAP stuff. BUT while some of us are making this effort... some of us are taking it for granted. Am I wrong to get mad when P-chan & I receive all these PMs that tell us "Oh so sorry, very busy so no time & too tired to post anything. Pls understand and give me access to the DL page." If you can't make the effort to post anything, why on earth should any of us make the effort to share with you????? Isn't that logical?? I am not being unreasonable, am I? I read these PMs in shock and sadness.

Thank you for your side of the story. I can understand where you are coming from. But do understand that you are not "intruding" into anything. We so look forward to new members joining us. New members bring new ideas, comments & character to Freebird. The active members you've mentioned are really not that long time friends. Freebird just passed our 3rd Birthday. We've only 'known' each other since then or later... I am so happy that thru Freebird and indirectly thru SMAP, we've had the opportunity to make so many friends from around the world. And yes, some members have even become good friends. But all these came about because we shared a part of ourselves with each other.
There's no such thing as an unworthy post if those are your sincere thoughts and feelings. You mentioned this "Many times the views I have from reading the posts seems unworthy for posting; they are usually just feelings of gratitude to the generous members for putting up a clip or magazine scan, admiration for the Freebird member's encounter with SMAP; appreciation of the sheer gorgeousness of our beloved boys." OK, I personally do not need over-zealous gratitude for helping to put up stuff. By a member's reply, squealing happily about it is good enough for me... But hey!! Aren't all these not examples of raving and ranting about SMAP?
How should I say this?? Think of this scenario... you are sitting around with your friends, watching SXS on TV... Takuya does something really cute... one goes "OMG did you see that?", one replies "Yes! He's sooo cute!!". Another one goes "Man! Shingo's put on weight" to which another (probably me!) responds "He's not fat! He's big built and tall so he can carry it off.". Nakai does something funny and all of you laugh! OK, that was a mighty lame example but what I am trying to get at is that all of you are spontaneously raving and ranting about SMAP together... It is the same as how this forum should be...

hi all.. i think it takes a lot of effort to put the message across to so many people especially when we ARE from so many different places and some of us may not even know one another's true identity, dont we? and the messages Shin-chan and P-chan or any people on board post can therefore be taken quite differently by us.. and while we enjoy one another's discussions and imaginations, i think what our moderators hope is that all of us.. All.. can contribute..no.. can just speak our mind freely abt the clips or images taken by some of our kind members who shared the pieces of information abt smap... any ideas of our own...
at first, i also found it a bit awkward to post any replies.. just like anyone else's who also shy here.. thus, i was mostly a 'reader' of the members' msgs in the past...so i'm quite a low -poster especially from jan-april when i was mad into my studies.. i'm sure all of us were busy or are busy at one point in daily chores..but it dawned on me when shin-chan brought us back to the point that 'look at what time the others post their replies'..
i think for some of us here..what we can do is to slowly post something? maybe start from just a one-liner abt how we felt abt any other posts? i started from that... in fact... my posts are almost short... i think when we post anything even one-liners, it just keep the discussion on a topic going..and when i have nothing at the moment or in fact i hardly have a source of clips or translations, i shared what other people on this board gladly shared with us and if i have opinions, i try to post it.. if i dont have any particular opinions, i look out for other people's opinions and see what i can do... so Shokurin,, perhaps u can consider this? no offence here... i was hoping my method can be of some help to anybody... i think i hv quick a similar experience as u.. have almost no sources but so much wanted to share a tiny weeny bit of us... i believe this board had provided to us a lot of our favourite smap's happenings... when i found out abt this board on yahoo search, i was basically so captivated and kept coming to check for updates... so if we (all interested parties) just keep the discussion going, we should be able to spread the msg ard with time that it's not rite to plagarise and try to keep quiet on this board if one really wants to share info abt smap...although this seems like an idealised condition, i'm sure it takes time..all of us knows that.. so while our moderators are attempting to rid the existing problem, one way we could perhaps help in is to share what we have, isnt it... it all seem idealised, i know.. but the first step is the hardest.. so we need to cross that first..
so let's just start talking!! hehez!

yeah i agreed with halu halu... ialso jus started joinin dis yr in apr... but the bond over here is so strong among some members... so sometimes feel a little awkward to pop up in the middle of the conversations and to express how u feel... in other words.. shy..!!

Wow!! Now I totally understand how Shin chan and Pchan feels. I just visited a board and boy was I shocked. All thier scans are exactly the same as what we have on Freebird!! Though I dun understand the discussion,I could pick up a few english words and guess they were discussing abt what we discussed here!!
Wow,wow,wow....I seriously think they shld stop these....I mean it's not right to 'steal' things from a board and put it on urs like ur own. Further more,this is a discussion board,watever has to be said,can be put down here,not running back to ur own board to discuss. I even see some of our members there. The most ironic part is, new members from our board are being invited over to other board openly here. No wonder our owners and moderators are annoyed. Who wouldn't, if U paid for this board and painstakingly put up scans and uploads for everybody to share,but at the same time,there are people who conveniently steal ur effort and made it like their own.
I'm seriously sad abt this whole matter,like many of U out there,who understand the effort our owners and moderators put in,I would like to put in a few words for them. This post may sound really rude,but I guess this message has to be put across clearly.
I had not mentioned name YET. However, this post shld 'wake' people up and end all this unhappiness at Freebird. Becoz of this people, shin and pchan had to separate downloads,exclude and include members,all the stern posts(including this one) will not have appear . All these unpleasant and troublesome stuff need not happen if not for a few inconsiderate people.Think abt it,if someone were to go to ur board ,cut and paste watever U put up and credit as thier own,how will U feel?
Freebird wouldn't be 'strict' as it is now ,and the same people are complaining abt it!! This is not Freebird's objective in the 1st place,and not to say,it's wat Freebird don't wanna become.I guess the owners have no choice,when warnings were given and still,people dun heed them.
Please, I hope U guys noe who U are, stop inviting members from our board over , and be alittle considerate.Utilise this message board,discuss watever here.

I've been suspecting that there's another forum that has been 'promoting' Freebird... From Thailand... We're getting a lot of newbies that are joining but not posting...
Whoever's that been doing that, kindly tell your forum members that they are very welcomed to join us but NOT lurk around. Thank you.

This is a repeat of Download Basics. It's been disregarded recently! Pls note:
For Topic title: Title of Clip (preferably with the date of the program, if you know it. Eg: SXS - ending song 9May05)
Comments & feelings on clips are encouraged much-ly
Please avoid one liners to thank the person who uploaded the clip
I would really appreciate your clips to be titled properly. Just scan down the main DL page you'll know what I mean. Many un-dated clips!

like we have said before, freebird is paid by me... it might not be a super duper expensive thing, but it's still money. we have 270 members, out of which only a handful of you (thank you!!) have been really active and giving life to freebird. but the majority are lurkers and post once in a while but come in to get info, and every more are lurkers who never post and just suck freebird of whatever it has to offer. the last time i renewed my membership was last march and with 2 months more to go, i have already used up my page views... 237075. and i certainly dont have even half of that number of posts to show for the pageviews. with 30 days in a month and considering about 10 months have passed (300 days), that's like roughly 800 page views a day. that's a lot. hell of a lot. if people who are contributing in terms of opinions or information or whatever to freebird, i am more than happy. but most do not contribute in any way which is really sad.
anyway, i will renew the membership again and hopefully a few more people would join in our converstations. and at the same time i will be deleting lurkers who have had zero or like a handful of posts only. thanks.

WOW!!! that is A LOT of viewing per day....i'm just curious, so does the viewing start when we log in then??? i usually log in maybe once or twice a week....and i'm seriously going to try to be more ACTIVE here....but a lot of times, when i want to post something, someone else has already posted my thoughts...i don't want to be redundant....anyways, i'll try...

I know what youre saying though-its good because so many people are logging on and are interested in the board but bad if only a low percentage are actually commenting..Recently I havent been AS active as I could be-no excuses really as weve all got busy lives desho? C'mon guys get to yakkin'!!

800 views a day?I could do that during the holidays...but now...no.I'm usually in school throughout the day so can't do what i usually do.But i gotta say,Shin chan and P chan have been doing a good job.Plus,more and more people are joining... And of course,we get to drool more on the guys.

I just checked the status of our aimoo membership. P-chan re-newed our subscription on 19th Jan 2006. It's exactly 31 days & the page view so far is 16,003. That works out to 516.2 page views a day.
I am considering a more serious approach towards lurkers. I haven't thought of what I intend to do. I've been seriously busy these few weeks.
For those of you who are frequent posters, please let me re-assure you that this has got nothing to do with you. I am more than happy that you're here or we'd have no board at all (think about it)... Why I want to explain this is cos some of you have told me that after P-chan made that post above on Freebird exceeding our limit, you hesitate now to re-fresh "Today" page. Oh please guys, GO AHEAD and re-fresh all you want, go read all the past threads & pages over and over and relish the happy SMAP memories, drool over old pics, etc... Hell, I don't care....
What irks me are selfish, inconsiderate lurkers who are here only to sponge off others instead of contributing!
Worse still, I've notice some members only post when they think their membership status is a little fragile, like a few days before the 2 month MIA ban period, they'll suddenlly post 2-3 posts, then disappear for 2 months again... I'm not sure which group is more disgusting.
Since I'm at it, I just like to add something that give me the shits! I've bitched about this only about 150 times before! *snarl*
People that cannot be bothered to fucking read! Our "freebird basics" is clear & simple and P-chan even changed the welcome email to all new members to please read "freebird basics" before anything else! Still...! Why am I having a verbal diarrhoea again, cos there's a post today that made abosolutely no sense cos the person failed to read the few posts before and posted about something totally kankenai cos it's last year's news! Or something... Cos I scanned thru the past few pages of that thread and it was from waaaaay back so I really couldn't figure it out!
And one more thing.... One liner thank you posts... If you're thinking of posting those, save it!
It may add 1 point to your total posts... but it'll add 10 frowns from me to you.
I've just thought of something... Maybe we can restrict the "SMAPpuholic Annonymous" & "New Release" categories like what we do for the "Downloads"... It's much less work for me instead of cheaking each member's profiles and posts & banning them!! I'll have a chat with P-chan about this... Maybe we have have another poll... I like polls! 
I always hate myself for a while after I posts these... & I am starting become a broken record that keeps repeating itself that's anal & laced with paranoia. It's happening so often I fear it becoming an obsession!

I would personally hate to see most of Freebird restricted to approved members only. I remember how it was when I first started browsing the board (not this one, but over at Channel SMAP) -- I was so hungry for anything and everything on my ichiban, but I wasn't quite ready to "commit" and join the chat immediately. I was probably a lurker for a week or so before I succumbed. But lurkers do eventually amount to new members, ideally...and I think that is the beauty of this forum, open and accessible to all, non-discriminating and spreading the love of SMAP wide and far, so much that lurkers are so touched by the spirit of the community that they feel compelled to join in.
I know that it's been suggested before to impose a member fee, but that idea was overthrown. Perhaps you can, instead, incorporate a donation box? I think many of us (myself included) would be more than willing to contribute what we can. Shin_chan and P-chan having already given us so much, I feel that most of us would dearly love to help.
I do feel how frustrating this is for you, Shin_chan...but somebody has to reinforce the rules...thank you for doing it! *hug*

I have to admit I was/is a lurker too. I read the post and looked around for a month before I got the courage to post something. I think some people feel the community atmosphere and may feel little out of the loop and won't post. When I read your post you all sound like friends and I wasn't part of that. Only after I read your welcomes to the knew posters I felt better and posted. I think that some are the "Bad Apples" but others are looking to learn more about Smap. I'm also guilty of one liners (I've broken all the rules!) and I just go back and read old post or lust after older pics......
I can't even begin to understand the complications of running a board like this. P-Chan/Shin-chan thanks for everything and I know whatever you decide will be the best thing for everyone.

Thank you for the feedback guys. Appreciate it! When I think about why we started SMAP Freebird, let me be the first to admit that these all seems wrong. But yes, it does get so frustrating at times but it always blows over quickly thank goodness...
Think about the number of members you actually really interact with... then look at the members list... Do you see the picture... Maybe cos I take more effort to make a note of members & their posts, I start noticing patterns, etc.
About one liners, I do that too please... I don't mean that they are not allowed! There ARE some posts that only require one line replies... And I do rattle one liners sometimes on how gorgeous Shingo is... What I meant is in 'ratio' of normal posts as to one liners... It boils down again to what I tried to explain above... I have to go thru member's profiles one by one and the records of posts are there... It's obvious then when you look and there are 6 out of 10 of 'Thank you thank you thank you' and 'he's so cute... and thank you'... THAT is what I mean... OK, hard to explain.
On the cost of running this board... We really don't want any money or donations. REALLY. It's not why we did this or bitch about stuff... Honestly I have no idea how much this board pays cos it goes to the card but I'm sure it's really little... It's not about the money it's the ... I don't know... principle behind it I think... That's not the right word either...
I shall leave it at that before this erupts any bigger.
BUT I do want to say this... I don't know if you guys have noticed... I busts into bouts of irritation.
Mostly it's because of one or two members. I'm sorry to all those not involed... It may sound like I'm targeting minna but really I'm not. But I realise that ironically everytime I have these rash outbursts, it's the people that are VERY not targeted that respond!! I might just be doing this wrongly... But I don't have the balls to PM that person cos it sits in their mailbox, waiting to stab at them directly so to me, if I say it our loud, it's less harsh cos I'm hoping they get the hint... But the consequence if that I'm hurting others... Hontouni gomenasai... m(_ _)m

hey shin-chan, we hear your frustrations, understand, emphathize and remain grateful for your efforts to update us with your news, thoughts and sometimes ero comments. for us that travel alot, speaking of myself, taking a moment away from work, work and more work to embellish in SMAP love is something i look forward to. of course we'd all like to be able to read and write comments all the time, but it's just sometimes difficult.
however, i at least appreciate being able to use the board and interact with fellow SMAP enthusiasts. i've met many friends through this board and it's something i hope will continue. of course we know you don't do it for the sake of having nothing better to do, i'm sure you yourself are swamped with daily chores as well, which amazes me at how much devotion you have to take the time to fill our lives with so much information! so for our sake, GANBATTE! you're SAIKO!
