Sounds like Chateau XXX to me. So should be a wine. Doubt he'd dare to mention a car :P. Initially, I was thinking it's something from Gundam the anime. Because his main area of research for cars and wine is 1973 (the year he was born). While 1979 will be more important to him because of Gundam. But I finally decided it should be Chateau XXX.

Btw, before Bistro King, the 5 of them have to pick a frying pan to decide if they're gonna compete in Group A or Group B in the prelimiary. The 5 frying pans have A, A, B, B or C written on the bottom. The person who picks C will get to choose if he wants to be in Group A or B.
It's very obvious that the Groups were pre-determined (all cooking materials have to be prepared and they need to go over what they need to cook before hand) so picking the frying pans was just for show. The final result has to be Group A: Nakai, Tsuyoshi, Goro and Group B: Kimura, Shingo no matter how they pick the frying pans. And the 5 of them know which frying pan is A, B or C.
So when the time comes to pick a frying pan, Shingo immediately goes for frying pan C. Goro starts laughing and slaps Shingo behind the head for doing that. Because Shingo does that to show that he does not want to be in the same group as Kimura. Goro is supposed to be the one to pick frying pan C and with Shingo hoarding frying pan C, Goro is forced to stand in front of frying pan B. After a bit of shuffling, and they are all in front of the frying pan they are supposed to pick, Shingo still keeps trying to take Tsuyoshi's frying pan. This time, Nakai starts laughing embarassingly and gives Shingo a big push as if saying that Shingo is looking down on Nakai's cooking and thinks it'll be much better to be in Group A.
This little episode is my favourite out of the two hour show  .

Thanks for sharing. Hey I think this episode is very nice too. Had a nice time grinning and laughing myself while readin it. Geez but seriously I think Nakai has improved tremendously in his cooking. He has been winning for many episodes of bistro, hasn't he? Yup, so really, Shingo shouldn't look down on Nakia...

Shingo's is Ala Moana Shopping Centre in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Tsuyoshi's is Levi's 501XX World War II model.
Still haven't figured out Nakai's  .
Oh, and Kimura's is spagetti with meat sauce (not meatballs) hehe.

Hmmm... I did not think 1979 was vintage wine at first.
I checked the wine ratings for that year and that year's wine is mediocre at best.
But if you look at the ratings by area, 1979 was a very good year for Bordeaux and Burgandy.
Looks like Goro chan has been studying more than I realized... 
Takuya's spaghetti and meat sauce...
I think it may sound really simple to cook and all, but I doubt that many can make it to his liking...
He may be a man with a simple wish, but very difficult to satisfied...

Miyuki, don't you love it when we have to study cars, wine and classical music to follow everything Goro says haha.
Sometimes I am so embarassed when I read some of Goro's film writeups in An-an and I haven't seen the films he was talking about. Film is my area and I still need to do catch up :P.

Hahaha... Classical music is something I know a little about, except I am not too keen on Chopin.
Always thought his music is too gloomy..
Wine is something I had a slight knowledge of before I met Goro chan...
Now cars... Here is something I do not know much about...
The other day I talked pass a Maserati dealer, and I said to my friends,
Look! Maserati! Of course my friends looked blankly at me... They have no idea what Maserati is...
To them it is just a bunch of English letters group together... 
So I explain to them, and then was treated with comments like: "You are such a 敗家女!" hahaha... 
Hey... It's definitely not me lah!
Half of films Goro chan mentioned in his column is unknown to me... So there is no point in trying to catch
up here... I will leave that to you, the expert to take care of it!

Bout cars.............I know more bout cars than I care to know........
EVERYDAY...............some exotic model will zoom by..................and Kyutaro will rattle off the features of that model........
some kids birdwatch or do arcade games........Kyutaro is into cars..............and Harley Davidsons
in our neighbourhood..................Maserati , Porches..... Ferraris, Audi TT coupe.....BMW
Z3s............the new Beetle............ are very visible.............

I won't call Goro's film column in Anan film reviews . They are descriptive essays, not reviews hehe. He refuses to call himself a film critic when he was asked to talk about film criticism on Ohayo Smap. And I am SO HAPPY that he can tell the difference between the two haha.
But yes, he writes about Korean films, European films, Hollywood films and even a Vietnamese and a Mexican film once. Basically, anything alternative that is being released in Japan with some mainstream Hollywood films thrown in. This month, he writes about a French film called La Repetition. Last month it was Hollywood's Bio Hazard (!!). And before that it was Mexican, British (a film he said he did not like but Shingo liked on Ohayo Smap), Nicole Kidman's The Others and a Korean film. All this was after he came back. Before the 143 days, it was Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese (finally hehe), Brad Pitt and Julia Robert's The Mexican, Mel Gibson's Million Dollar Hotel and Keanu Reeves' The Watcher.

Nah, nothing this recent . He wrote on the two Korean films just before and after his 143 days. The one in Aug 2001 was The Foul King. And the one in Mar 2002 was Friend.
In fact his Foul King piece came out in the 22 Aug 2001 issue, very narrowly escaping the ban. Friend was released in Japan in Apr 2002, so his piece on Friend should be written after he came back and there is no way of knowing if he wrote anything for Sept 2001 which was never published.
