i just read that smap will be the host of this year's kouhaku. usually it is nakai hosting and the rest appear often to help support, but this time around all five will host as representatives of the white group.
i tried searching online but couldn't really find a lot of news on it. what i read was this:
大みそかの「ＮＨＫ第５８回紅白歌合戦」の白組司会者をＳＭＡＰが担当することが８日、濃厚になった。複数の関係者によると、これまでリーダーの中居正広（３５）が通算３回務めてきたが、今回は初めてメンバー５人全員で担当する。番組史上でもグループ全メンバーによる司会はなく、史上初の快挙となる。紅組司会者は、女優長沢まさみ（２０）が最有力で、週明けにも正式発表される見込みだ。
ＮＨＫは世代を超えた人気を誇るＳＭＡＰこそ、紅白の切り札として、全メンバーによる司会を待望してきた。すでに演出面で０５年は番組中３度勢ぞろいで歌う場面を用意、０６年は中居と木村拓哉（３４）によるメッセージの朗読や応援合戦で香取慎吾（３０）がドラマの当たり役、孫悟空に扮（ふん）するなど何度もメンバーを登場させた。司会なら常に複数のメンバーが出演する形も可能なだけに、依存度はさらに高まる。
今年の紅白歌合戦のテーマは「歌の力、歌の絆（きずな）」。今年、ＳＭＡＰの新曲の発売がなかったが、０３年紅白では大トリで歌われた「世界に一つだけの花」は今も各種名曲アンケートの上位にランクされる。司会の大役とともに、国民的なヒット曲で、０３年、０５年に続く３度目のトリを任される可能性も高い。
what is says is that it was confirmed on the 8th that smap will be the leaders of the white group. while nakai has been host 3 times, it is the first time ever in history of nhk that all members of a group will become hosts. while not confirmed yet, they also predict that actress nagazawa masami will be host for the red group.
nhk had hoped for smap to be hosts as they have a popularity that extends beyond generation groups.
this year's theme is "the power of songs, the bond of songs". although they had no new songs this year, sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana, which they sang in kouhaku 2003, is still in top rankings. besides having new responsibilities as hosts, with their hit songs, it is a high possibility that they will once again close the show for kouhaku for the 3rd time after '03 and '05.
