20:46 SEPTEMBER 28 2004 marks the date that Takuya finally, at last, to our much anticipated angst, graces the screen in Hong Kong?s brand new Easy Cinema at Broadway Cyberport. The gala began with the pre-opening press conference which was broadcast live on television on TVB?s entertainment nightly programme. Attendees were Tony Leung, Carina Lau, Chang Chen, Wong Ka Wai and his wife. I managed to get tix from a friend who works at 20th Century films the normal big film promoters in HK.

1.) They were briefly interviewed by the usual TVB announcer and asked to open with a Mid-Autumn Festival greeting to the movie-goers.
2.) After those formalities, the next question was what they each thought this movie?s storyline was about. Tony said he thought the story is simply about a man, and how this man feels and does when he rejects the women that love him, and how this man feels he needs a change and when he returns to HK from Spore?yes Spore represents!?the man meets more women, and that?s simply what it?s about. The film portrays the story through this man?s perspective and movie goers should then be quite clear when they take that character?s point of view to understand the film. Then WKW said he agreed?.nodding, further adding it?s about love?s after effects, how that man once loved a woman and then how he tried to forget that past and then how that man tried to accept his new lifestyle.
3.) Next question was for the next movie, if they do end up working with WKW again, what would be each actor?s requests before taking on the project. Chang said nothing really except don?t film for another 5 years that?s all. Anytime is fine except not long as 5 years?even 4 years is ok. Carina agreed she requests not 5 years again. Also the question was WKW asked her to gain weight for the film. She said initially WKW did request her to do so. WKW interjected saying her character should be more plump and ample, (in Chinese it connotes more curvaceous/full figured). Carina said WKW has always wanted her to gain weight even with earlier films and that has been the case, she doesn?t know why this has always happened to only her characters. Further, Carina was asked to comment on her many steamy scenes in the film. She denied that fact and purported that in the film she was the one to watch Tony having many steamy love scenes with the other actresses?chuckle chuckle. Tony?s reply to the request was that he doesn?t mind the length of time as he really enjoys acting regardless of timeframe. But his one request is that their salary should be per diem and not per film! Thus no matter the time, he doesn't mind even if it takes 10 years it?s all good!
4.) After some silly questions, not really interesting to me anyway, the final question was how do you rate the film in points. Chang said 80-90 points, Carina 120 points, Tony 90 something.
Afterwards they did the usual pull-the lever contraption technique to start the event, you had confetti drop down, champaign toast, and the whole nine yards.
Then we proceeding to enter the red carpet area after all the stars went to sign the 2046 backdrop and then into the theater house. unfortunately I didn?t get to take any pics outside as the security were in the way and were anal about the cameras in case we brought them into record the film?but unbeknowest to them I took it in anyway for later use?
Anyway, my friends and I entered the same viewing house as the cast and sat a few rows in front of their seats. It was free seating so of course i'd rather see their faces then the back of their heads right?! Tony the last in the row, then Carina, Chang, WKW and his wife. The film began with the opening credits where everyone clapped for each actors name when it appeared on the screen. The first name was Tony which drew a fairly large applause, then Gong Li, then Faye, then Takuya drew a huge applause plus my very loud whistling which the entire house could hear?others to follow in mild manner.
Now skip to the actual 2046 movie itself, it was simply excellent! Sugeee tanoshikatta! You will all enjoy it in your own personal ways. As I don't think it's fair to you here, I won?t reveal much but I will say this, I was soooo amazed by the "enhanced Takuya version", it?s totally not the Cannes version, you will all be very bikkuri shita! His sexy voice the many different looks and costume, simply magnificent. I really shouldn?t say what exactly I liked and didn?t like because it honestly would spoil it for you guys that are still waiting anxiously thus... ***In case any of you are dying to see the different scenes either in short mpg video, amateur sneaky pic snapshots by moi, or interested to hear my honest opinions, PM me for more info***
Anyway, my ratings from a more simpler 1 to 5 scale is:
3.5 for storyline,
4 for Tony?s leading actor efforts,
3.5 for supporting cast,
4.75 for cinematography and costume,
4 for musical score,
4 for overall picture and
last but definitely not least a full 500 for Takuya?s first major global asian masterpiece, we all know he?s the real Super Leading actor captivating the audience and leaving them begging for more.
Finally, after the show ended the cast stood for our applause and walked out towards the exit that was actually right next to me, so caught a few photo ops which I will post later. But in addition, when I left the house, I was immediately pulled aside by the anticipating tv reporters and camercrew to be interviewed for my thoughts on the film. (I assume I will be on some tv show, either regular or cable, so I will definitely be putting the dvd recording on all day tomr..but stupid of me that I didn?t ask which program they were going to be sending the tape too?.duhhh a blonde moment) Anyway, I knew the first thing out of my mouth would be I love TAKUYA!~but I couldn?t be that selfish so after I said I thought Tak was awesome and excellent and all, I did insert a comment that I thought Tony?s acting ability has greatly improved. But I closed by saying that Takuya?s performance in my opinion was a ?tremendous breakthrough!" I wanted to insert some "Cho Kakkoii" and all but I?m sure they would?ve cut that out, thus what I said I really believe will be shown in it?s entirety on tv tomr. Thanks, I?m pretty proud of myself.
Anyhow, I will be watching it again at the same place tomr again with another set of friends, because tonite I did a bunch of mindless work, working the camera and all and staring at the cast behind me. Thus tomr?s show I will fully envelope myself in Takuya?s performance once again. However, I?m sure I?ll be watching it at least another 10 times after that.
In closing, well the 5 year wait was?truly long?but worth every minute of the year 2046 and beyong. Takuya is simply brilliantly and such a natural talent and human being that we?re so blessed to be apart of him in anyway possible!

i'm so excited i've got my DVD recording at home recording the entertainment channel 24/7, but unfortunately nothing today, i believe they will come out tomr as today is the real asia release day, so hopefully with my comments i've spread the gospel to the masses about how amazing my ichiban is!!!! go out in bunches to support the movie, let's make it the # 1 boxoffice hit this month!

hhmmmm, now as i take a min to re-review the past few days of entertainment programming, they deleted takuya's fight scenes!! waruuuuiiiii those were soooo entertaining and sexy!, but you will be thrilled by the cuteness of his other character and costume ala tony, plus the man speaks cantonese!!! suggggggoiiii

well the second time around surely was the eye opening, all the "huhs" have been answered now. it wasn't that i didn't pay attention that much during the premier, it was because WKW really does a bit of a twisted storytelling habit in almost all his films. but to be honest this time around, WKW was soooo much more explicit in the storyline than any of his previous works. there were explicit clues and foreshadowing that really were invisible in In the Mood for Love. plus, the 2nd time around you really get it from the beginning when time is set to past rather than present and then future. so a few times is in store for all Kimura fans....and 2046 fans!

this was said in the japan zone about the japan verson of 2046. but from what i recall, the hk version was about 20 min as well however i wonder if it will still be different than the japan version.
"2046," the new Hong Kong movie that features SMAP's Kimura Takuya (32), is set to open here on October 23. Compared to the version that showed at the Canes Film Festival in May, the "local" version will feature a lot more scenes of Kimutaku, increasing his on-screen time from a mere 7 minutes to about 20. Directed by Wong Kar Wai and starring Tony Leung and Fay Wong, the movie was a full five years in the making and was beseiged with problems. The final reels only barely made Cannes, and the screening had to be delayed as a result. October 05, 2004

I guess it's really not up to Takuya to decide sometimes. Like I had a conversation abt this with some of the board members here B4, Johnny's cannot force Takuya or SMAP to do anything that SMAP dun want to do,but Johnny's is still their management company anyhow,no matter how they dislike a certain project, I guess it's still up to Johnny to give and take. Sometimes,it's their personal interest that hold them back from all these projects,but if it affects the whole picture or SMAP/ Johnny's reputation,den I guess SMAP has no choice but to sacrifice their personal likes/dislikes.
Since I'm talking abt this,would just like to let minna noe, I personally had wrote a fax to Takuya via What's Up SMAP to invite him over to Singapore for the 2046 Movie Premeire. I've also wrote a letter to Mr Johnny and Director Wong Kar Wai to ask for permission on that. However, I didn't get any response,not that I'm hoping for one( I mean I wun complain if I have). To me,I've expected this, initially,I tot my naive idea would have an itsy bitsy bit of chance to succeed ,but as time goes by, I guess it's to no avail. Demo ne, at least I know they would have at least learnt abt the fax/letter and know the existence of us,Singapore fans. I'm infact very proud of myself, hahhaa,my fax got thru to What's Up!! Even if it didn't catch Takuya's attention,at least I noe it's lying in one of the boxes there.
Dakara,as much I think Takuya is shaking his legs at home most of the time,these msgs post at Grndbreaker had changed my conceptions.

I really no mood to work today because I know that the premier is tonight at 9.15pm....and till this afternoon still no new from my friend... waiting and waiting for my friend's call....dunno whether she can manage to find me a pair of tickets for tonight....thought that no more hope already  .....until at 5.00pm.... my friend FINALLY called me....kekekeke....

hihi.... me here again.... besides the u-weekly this week that will feature takuya, faye wong, tony leung on the cover.... there's this 'FIRST' magazine that is also featuring 2046.. the cover for this doesnt have takuya on the cover... but upon flipping open the 1st pg, u can see a shot that has faye wong n takuya over a 2-pg spread.. of cos, there is some pgs in between that will talk abt the movie 2046 itself.... if i rem correctly, there is a pg with takuya's pic in it.. but i didnt read thru the paragraphs so i'm not sure what it actualli wrote....hehee
........for EVERYBODY'S information!!! Enjoy..

For people in S'pore, local TV channel ,channel 8 has also started to air some movie thrillers since Sunday 10 Oct. Do try to catch it.
I just got back from the movie premeire,hahha..what should I say,I think I 'sense' a few Kimura fans ard me! kekekek....when takuya came out and we all held our breath,hahhaha..one lady among the movie goers even replied to Takuya's line in the movie. Kawaii!!
Personal Opinions:
Not to give away the story line, overall, I feel the movie is alittle draggy,but not as difficult to understand as I 1st thought. It's quite funny as well,mostly on Tony Leung's part. Hhahahhaa...there's one comedic scene of Takuya everyone shoould just watch! It's hilarious!
Now,I have a problem, I dunno how to persuade my tomodachi to watch this film,erm...coz I myself find it alittle draggy and it's not totally a 'must catch' movie,other den the fact that Takuya is in it and it took a freaking 5 years to finish filming. Everybody's acting in the show is fairly good, Takuya's acting isn't as amazing as what the media had boasted,erm...or should I say,maybe I'm use to his acting style and to me,it's just another Takuya style,but for the international media,Takuya's acting is new to them and they find it totally mesmerising or stuff. Not that I'm complaining,but these are my views. All in all,I think 2046 is still worth to catch,erm... I'll give 3 1/2 stars over 5.
What does the rest of U think? I'm sure quite a handful of us here went,just that I cannot put the faces to the many nicks here. Kkekekke.But still,I'm glad quite a number of Takuya fans went,whether from the board or not,though we're not as 'supportive' as HK/China fans,I think we did a fairly good job!  
Looking forward to the gathering on Wednesday,hope with the combine power of Minna,we're able made an impact like the overseas fans did!!

Ahhhhhh!!!! SUGOI TAKUYA.... His charm never fails..... He is just pure KAKOII!!!!! 2046 isn't that hard to understand... Just have to keep track a bit... Takuya was really really good looking..... Oh, I think I've mentioned....
There were a few Takuya fans there in the cinema... Gasps were heard each time his scenes appeared.... OH MAN... He was Kakoii...... *sorry*
The overall movie was quite good... The old fashioness of the scenes were tastefully done, however, the storyline was a bit draggy and slow... But Takuya was sooooo Kakoi..... There were some really funny parts in the movie too...
Yokatta!!!! FINALLY watched 2046.... I look forward to saying that for.... .........concert *rolls eyes*

Just to add on,on what Halu halu introduce,magazine FIRST cost $4.50(SIN)
Kino now has the 2046 photo book on sale for $28.83.(Taiwan version) With any purchase of the photobook, you'll get a set of 3 posters coming with it.One of coz including Takuya and Faye Wong.

Just bought the ost today at HMV. It costs $19.95 and comes with 4 movie picture cards. The pictures are the same as the 4 different posters that HK and Taiwan have. The cd booklet has pictures as well. I've scanned the ones with Kimura up... Enjoy~

Personally, I LOVE the ost and so... ya...
I'm not sure about the posters though coz' when I went to ask about the book and posters in Kino on thursday, the person said that the books are already sold out. -_-"
From what I know/saw, most of Kimura's pictures in the book either appeared in mags before or online. ^_^

I thoroughly enjoyed 2046 and am very happy that Takuya has chosen to act in this movie. Of course as his fan, I wish he had a meatier role...because apart from Tony Leung, the female leads are next to shine. I am not saying that Takuya did not do well, but because his character is only part of Tony's narration, I feel there was no room for his role to stand out. In fact, there was no room for any other male actors in the movie to stand out because storyline revolves around Chow, his memories, his thoughts and the women he encountered. Nevertheless, it was mesmerizing watching my idol on the big screen with all the great cinematography. Wong Kar Wai is indeed a movie wizard, and I am still intoxicated by the rich sensory plays - colors, music, story and cast, even though it has been days after I've watched it. I am hoping that this role will help Takuya propel his career into bigger things to come.

This is just my own opinion, and I'm writing it with no other intention except to give some variety to this thread.
Hmm. I watched 2046 on Friday. And I personally feel that Takuya shouldn't have acted in it.
I'm not saying that he didn't act well. Or the show wasn't good. I haven't really decided what I feel about the show. What I do know is that I don't feel anything after watching Takuya. Which is not good to me. Feeling exhilarated would be the best. But feeling disappointed (in his acting) is even better than feeling nothing. Because that's just what came across. Nothing. It was as though it was just a shell of Takuya on screen. It could have been anybody doing anything. There wasn't any of his personality in it. And I feel that such characters are easily forgotten because it's not the actions that are everlasting but the feelings that are evoked at that moment in time that are remembered.
Maybe it's because I have seen Takuya in other roles that I feel this way. Although I must admit that he does use a particular style for all his roles, including 2046, he has been able to infuse most of them with a character that is unique or at least real.
Or maybe there are just too many characters and too many stories trying to be told that he didn't really have a chance to come through. Or he was busy playing someone else that he couldn't have a character of his own.
I don't know if it would have been different if someone else had done the role. I'm just complaining cos Takuya is by ichiban and I would like the best for him.

Ah!! I got a question... I haven't gone to watch 2046 yet, and I know it's rated NC-16, so ummm.. THey won't check your IC or what right? I haven't been to a NC-16 movie b4 ^^;; I'm only turning 16 this December, so I'm not sure if they allow me in?
What's more, to my disadvantage, people ALWAYS comment that I look like I'm still in primary school!! T_T Errrr won't check IC right?!?!? If this year I'm turning 16, I can watch or not?

I know exactly what you mean. In fact that was why I said he didn't stand out. In my analysis, the problem lies with the storyline which revolves mainly on Chow and his women. No other male actors in that movie stood a chance of standing out. For Tak, 90% of his character was never alive as it was always from Chow's narration of the story. Whatever he could emote was quickly overshadowed by the image of Chow in our minds....
I read yesterday that there was supposedly a 45 mins portion of Takuya with Faye shot for 2047 but Wong had it edited. If that was added, maybe....maybe....it would have been different.
However, I feel that it was good for Takuya to have acted in this masterpiece. Even though his role was not meaty, it is good for his movie career (if he intends to pursue more of it). I agree that his role could have been anybody. It could even be Chang Zheng. But if you look around the Japanese actors, I think Takuya is definitely the only choice.

I need to supplement my last point a little. I think to make it into the Asian, or international scene, it was a good choice for Takuya to act in 2046. Look at the publicity of the movie in the various countries. He is noticed by more people because of this movie and this is something we should be happy as his fans. I was so happy that he received a lot of applause in Shanghai even though he was not at the premiere.
If it was a Japanese movie he has acted in, frankly, I don't think he could get noticed outside Japan (and his circle of fans) so easily.....just my two cents worth.
