And the rating in Kansai area is 30.5%. It's been very long since any japanese drama has hit such a high rating.

１４日夜に放送されたＳＭＡＰ木村拓哉（３４）主演のＴＢＳ系ドラマ「華麗なる一族」の初回視聴率が関西地区で３０・５％、関東地区で２７・７％と好調だったことが１５日、ビデオリサーチ社の調べで明らかになった。
原作は「白い巨塔」などで知られる作家山崎豊子さんの人気小説。７０年代の金融界を舞台に野望や愛憎を描く社会派人間ドラマ。木村は銀行頭取で欲望むきだしの父親との葛藤（かっとう）に苦しみながら正義を貫こうとする息子を演じる。

Here is the ranking for the winter drama from Oricon. Top 5 winter drama as at 1st episode.

キムタク「華麗なる一族」、ダントツの初回視聴率
木村拓哉主演、山崎豊子原作のTBS開局55周年記念ドラマ『華麗なる一族』の初回が1月14日にオンエアされ、その視聴率が27.7％（関東地区/ビデオリサーチ調べ）を記録。2007年冬の新ドラマでダントツのトップとなる初回視聴率を獲得したことがわかった。
今クールの新ドラマ初回視聴率ではこれまで、井上真央、松本潤主演の『花より男子2』（1月5日放送）が19.4％、またNHK『風林火山』（1月7日放送）が21.0％と高視聴率をマークしていたが、それを大幅に超える数字を『華麗なる一族』がたたき出した。
ちなみに前クール（2006年秋）の新ドラマ初回視聴率トップは、『Dr.コトー診療所2006』（10月12日放送）の23.2％。今回の『華麗なる一族』の30％に迫る数字は、連ドラひさびさの大ヒット。この先の展開次第では大台の突破も期待できるかもしれない。
『華麗なる一族』は、1973年に原作が発表され、これまでに映画化、ドラマ化されており、今回が33年ぶりのドラマ化となる作品。山崎豊子の原作ということと共に、木村拓哉の主演のほか、北大路欣也、武田鉄矢、津川雅彦、西田敏行、柳葉敏郎など周辺を固める豪華実力派キャスト、相武紗季、長谷川京子、稲森いずみ、山田優など注目の女優陣の出演も話題を集めている。

Omedetou Kimura kun!!!! Sugoii ne...The first thing I did this morning was to turn on my computer to start downloading this new dorama. Hopefully the download will finish by the time I get home so that I can watch it. This dorama is definitely one of the ones that I've been looking forward to in 2007. Not only is Kimura in it, but the story sounds really interesting ne. And not the typical love story dorama that he does. Although Engine was not one of my fav dorama of his, I still admire the fact that Kimura kun is willing to try out different roles. I'll just have to reserve my opinions until I've actually seen the dorama.

I finally got to watch the first episode last nite!!! Boy, it's really a totally different dorama than what Kimura is used to doing. Even his character (Teppei) is someone that Kimura has never done before. This character is really going to test Kimura's acting skills. I'm so proud of him for putting himself into such a role...I feel that he's not an IDOL acting...he's an ACTOR acting. I'm hoping people will see how much of Kimura's acting has improved. At least I hope he'll give us all a different side of Kimura Takuya than what we are used to seeing.
As for the story...wow, it's really serious ne and many of the characters seem to be very manipulative and they are constantly scheming. I hope Teppei will be able to deal with the true identity of himself and he will be able to win the war that has been brewing within the family.
Man, the mistress character is really a b#%^#~!! God, I hope something bad is going to happen to her...all the actors are soooo good in this show...I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode!!!
This season is sooo busy for me...I've got so many doramas to watch...YEH~!!! It's about time I get back into the Japanese Doramas...it's been a slow 2006 for me...2007 seems to have started out pretty well in the dorama world~!!! Now, I'm just waiting for Nakai to do a new dorama!!! hahahaha

Thanks for the picture scans, pams chan!!!! I love that scene from the first episode too  Teppei looks soo yasashii towards his son and his wife...love love love the way he said "aishiteru" to his wife *melt* *melt*
i don't really like how tight those suits seem to fit Kimura kun but i guess that was the style back then...if anyone can pull it off, it's definitely him...the tightness does show of his sexy body...muuaahhhaaaaa

Thanks for the mag attack PAMS!! I finally got to see the first episode and all I can say is TEPPEI!!! Aishitteru!! Hahaha!
What gives me the goosebumps is whenever Sanae, Teppei's wife calls him "anata". Major creeps!!

Kareinaru ended with average rating = 23.9% (Kanto) - highest in the season.
The last episode's rating in Kanto = 30.4%, Kansai = 39.3%!!
Highest rating in Kanto = 35.5% while Kansai was 44.9%!!!!
OMG and that 44.9% was the scene with Teppei as a main act!!
I'm so happy, though the drama was not. ^___^

Thanks for the info Toomad! This show is just the best! I love the storyline and the characters. Even though I hate the mistress's character the most  the actress did a wonderful job portraying her. She was good in Shinsengumi too. It was so nice to see Takuya act in a different character too! I'm looking forward to his next works
