New Samurai on the Block
About 500 reporters turned out yesterday to hear about a movie that has barely started filming. Director Yamada Yoji's latest venture into the world of samurai drama stars SMAP heart-throb Kimura Takuya (33). And at yesterday's pre-production announcement, they made it clear that they're aiming to make a movie that is Oscar material. "Bushi no Ichibun" is Kimutaku's first venture into period drama, but Yamada is already comparing him with that most stoic of actors, Takakura Ken. He has grown a bit of a beard for his role as a low-level samurai, blinded by his job as a poison tester, who seeks revenge against the man who steals his wife. The movie, not due for general release until next year, has had an offer from the Berlin Film Festival, where Yamada's "Tasogare Seibei" (Twilight Samurai) was nominated for the Golden Bear award in 2003.

God I think this movie will be AMAZING desho? The director is aiming for the highest level and we all know Takuya is capable of achieving the kind of international status as an actor as Ken Watanabe (Jeez wait till American audiences get a look at him theyll be drooling fom New York to California!) Seriously cant wait for this to open Ill be one of those crazy people who queue for two days to get in hahahahaha!!

Although "2046" received quite a bit of coverage in Toronto, and that's most likely what people here will know Kimura by when the new movie comes out, as the "train bandit" in 2046 rather than as a member of SMAP.

I am soo excited for this new movie!!! Takuya is going to put his 110% in it as usual, and i really hope it will make it to the Oscars! How amazing would that be. Takuya on the Red Carpet, hot as usual. It's undoubtedly going to be a great performance by him. woohoo!!

Sugoi ne! I'm so excited to hear this! I can imagine the Oscar night with Takuya looking glamorous and then... a Hollywood debut!!! I hope Shingo will go to the Oscar night to film SmaSTATION. Actually, I hope that every SMAP member will be able to go there. Wow wow wow, this is too exciting!!!

Kiimura already looks everybit the manly samurai with that goatee!!! When he was talking to the reporters his voice was really deep too, made me weak in the knees... 
I'm assuming the actress standing beside him is the one playing his wife...does anyone know who she is?

Her name is Dan Rei and she's a famous stage actress. This will be her first screen role. She used to be part of a dance troupe called Takarazuka.

Takuya indeed looks better here with his hair blown and he also looks more genki at this Press Conference than the previous one that he went with director Yamada at Shochiku Cinema on 26 January 2006. Anyway, wish he can quickly get rid of that moustache lah....gomen i really don't like it...kekeke~~~~

 I want to see this dorama. I remembered that I used to see Kimura played Samurai dorama and Shingo played Ninja dorama.
But Nakai, Tsuyoshi and Goro, I didn't saw them played Samurai and Ninja dorama. I want to see it.

I really want to see this movie too!! (Of course LOL). I have my friend who works at the university movie theatre (who often show Japanese movies) to be on the lookout for it. My fingers are crossed that I get to see it on the big screen. I've been excited about it for awhile! I'd love for Takuya to get to do more movies

「武士の一分」が邦画初の大役！東京国際映画祭ＯＰ・イブ上映
ＳＭＡＰの木村拓哉（３３）主演の映画「武士の一分」（１２月１日公開）が、第１９回東京国際映画祭（１０月２１～２９日、東京・六本木、渋谷を中心に開催）のオープニング・イブで上映されることが１２日、発表された。
邦画がオープニング・イブ上映されるのは同映画祭で初めて。ワールド・プレミアにもなるイブの１０月２０日は、木村や山田洋次監督の舞台あいさつも予定され、映画祭を盛り上げるのに一役買いそうだ。
チェアマンの角川歴彦氏は「今年の映画祭の幕開けを国際的にも華やかに飾ってくれると思う」。山田監督は「華やかなステージに木村拓哉、檀れいの両スターとともに参加できることを楽しみにしています」とコメントを寄せた。

Takuya's movie 「武士の一分」 will be taking part in the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) from 21 oct - 29 oct. It was also announced that 「武士の一分」 will be screen on 20th Oct, one day before the opening of TIFF.
It said that Takuya and Director might be there too on 20 Oct...
I'll be back in Singapore already... shall i extend a few more days to go for this....

I agree with Gigi - it's a definite YES. Singapore to Japan is so CLOSE!
I've just gone to the Toronto International Film Festival last week and saw lots of American celebrities up close. I wish it were the Tokyo one instead. The Toronto one is also called TIFF!! don't they get mixed up?

ＳＭＡＰの木村拓哉（３３）が２日、主演映画「武士の一分」（山田洋次監督、１２月１日公開）の山形・鶴岡キャンペンーンに参加した。出演映画の本格的な地方キャンペーン参加は初めて。笑顔が絶えない充実した１日となった。
鶴岡は原作の藤沢周平の故郷で、作品の舞台のモデルになった地。新潟駅発のローカル線（羽越本線）を貸し切ったキャンペーン特別列車「武士の一分」号で、山田監督、妻役の檀れい（３５）とともに鶴岡入りした木村は、同市内の庄内神社でヒット祈願。その際、境内で地元商工会議所の女性会が作った名物いも煮を堪能し、「んぅめぇ～のぉ」と庄内弁で表現し、大感激。夜には、鶴岡市中央公民館で行われた特別試写会の舞台あいさつにサプライズで登場して、地元市民を大いに喜ばせた。
鶴岡の人々との触れ合いに、木村は「温かく迎え入れてくれてうれしかった」と交流をしっかりと胸に刻んだ様子。全行程を終え、「ローカル線の中で取材陣の皆さんと話したり、あれだけフラッシュを浴びながら、いも煮を食べることはもうないでしょうし、要所、要所で本当にツボに入る１日でした。次回（のキャンペーン）もできたら参加したい」と熱く語っていた。
同映画は「たそがれ清兵衛」「隠し剣 鬼の爪」と続く、山田監督による藤沢周平時代劇の三部作のトリを飾る作品。藩主の毒味役を務めて失明した下級武士とその妻の絆を描く。

hey guys! you can actually check this out bushi no ichibun it's a youtube link and it's more scenes from bushi no ichibun! so you see kimura being poisoned, and trying to regain his honor and he looks uber COOL. i've never seen him acting this well before! this movie looks like a die die must watch!

Minna take a look at the bushi no ichibun's official website. There is an interesting stuff to download..maybe some of you are interested.
Go to 武士の一分 and click enter. On the main page (left hand side) click on a tap "スベシャル" . The download are for either window or mac user.
I have mine on my computer already......The two birds on the branches actually do move around...and one of them will fly and go back to the branches again...kekeke . And you will see extra information if you click on the bird itself. Ok...minna enjoy!!!!

thanks Pams for the kimura pictures...
i think i heard or read somewhere that Kimura is pretty excited in this new role too, since its his ist time acting in periodic dramas and since the other smap members (shingo and tsuyoshi, cant really remember if nakai or goro done it too) had done it, he wanted to try it out. Guess hes really serious in this new role~

And then I remembered concert clips......whem......to omoi Shingo may have a few tricks up his sleeves too.....
